EDIBLE LANDSCAPE

AND BACKYARD RECLAMATION

Project Location:

Washington, DC

Project Description:

This project highlights the many edible plants our client is fortunate to be able to grow on site.  They include Paw Paw, Pecan, and Serviceberry trees as well as herbs and vegetables grown in raised beds and integrated into the surrounding gardens.

Behind the scenes, this was a grading and drainage project that involved the integration of backyard collection pools and streams with front yard cisterns, and a rain garden.

The backyard was becoming increasingly wet and impassable, possibly due to increased neighboring impervious surface.   We ensured that the proposed streams and pools were graded properly when integrated with micro-drains, overflow drains, and cisterns that are housed under a planted median in the driveway.

I created a base map from field collected data, digitized the hand-drawn schematic design, created construction drawings, and collaborated on construction administration.

I also developed a planting plan that highlights sustainable species.  During construction administration I met with engineers and
contractors to ensure an integrated final project.
