Project Location:
Strafford, NH
Project Description:
Since moving to Strafford in 2017, we’ve been experimenting with contemporary and ecological landscape design in a historic, agricultural setting. We occupy this 1770’s farmhouse and its surroundings in ways that are both remarkably similar and vastly different from the ways of previous generations. We enjoy observing wildlife, keeping chickens, making maple syrup, growing fruits and vegetables, heating primarily with wood, and preserving foraged grapes, apples, blueberries and elderberries. We also enjoy wireless high speed internet, fairly easy access to Concord, Portsmouth and Boston, and off-farm employment. Our goals for this landscape are focused primarily on selective firewood harvest, recreation, habitat creation, and aesthetics. With these things in mind, our overall landscape design includes space planning and layout for sustainably grown perennial pollinator gardens, organic flower and vegetable production, a meadow, and a sustainably managed forest.
