Gardening for habitat: NATURAL POOL AND PATIO design

Forest, Meadow, Pool, Vegetable Plot

Naturalistic Pool and Patio Design

Project Location:

Falls Church, Va.

Awards:

Winner of the 2017 Potomac ASLA Merit Award for Built Work

Project Description:

A naturalistic pool and patio design were the major landscape feature that were retained during this extensive property renovation.  They are visually connected to the residence and now serve as a gathering place for wildlife in this near-suburb of Washington DC.

Planned landscape types include a kitchen garden, cutting garden, meadow, wetland edge, and forest.  Since installation, homeowners have seen Great Blue Herons, a Wood Duck family, foxes, and countless insect pollinators.
